Why a lightweight reclining stroller?
You may be wondering why you need a second or maybe even third stroller. A lightweight reclining stroller for travel is going to give you an opportunity to travel and explore new places without lugging around a huge full size or lightweight jogging stroller. It can’t replace an everyday full-sized stroller but makes an excellent addition. Lightweight baby strollers are compact and usually weigh less than 15 lbs and are easy to fold up. They are made mostly from light aluminum but also some high-grade plastic frames are fashionable. Most come with a strap or a handle for the convenience of carrying. Their compact design makes them perfect for travel on airlines and trains.
How to choose the best lightweight stroller for newborn ?
There are so many lightweight reclining strollers on the market, all boasting to be the best compact and convenient way to travel, but how do you know which one is the right one for you?
1/ The first thing you should consider when looking at lightweight reclining strollers is how many steps it takes to fold. Most lightweight strollers fold up in 2 to 3 steps to be compact enough to carry. When you are taking it on trips, you don’t want to have to remove wheels and spend too much time folding and unfolding. Making sure you can carry it with a strap or a handle is a great feature to look for as well. All lightweight strollers are going to fold differently so if you have the opportunity it’s a good idea to try it out in the baby store.
2/ The second thing to consider is the wheels. Lightweight reclining strollers with more wheels are going to provide a smoother and more comfortable ride for the baby and better maneuverability for you. The size of the wheels is also something to think about because smaller wheels are likely to need to be replaced more often if you run into rougher grounds like cobblestone or a bumpy sidewalk. You’re definitely going to want a lightweight stroller for toddler that has wheels that are going to stand up to your travels. When looking at the wheel also look whether the lightweight stroller for toddler also comes with an added suspension of some kind.
3/ The third thing to consider is the material that the lightweight reclining stroller is made. You want to find a material that is strong and durable but also comfortable for your child to be in for long periods. Also, consider the material that the frame is. Materials like aluminum and high-grade plastics are common with lightweight stroller frames. The material is going to dictate just how light and durable your lightweight stroller for toddler is. It is also going to dictate how durable it’s going to be when you have it on your shoulder strap of handle folded. It’s important to keep in mind that most lightweight strollers aren’t made for a lot of wear and tear. So don’t be upset or surprised when you have to buy another.
4/ The fourth thing to consider is the features a lightweight reclining stroller can have. Because while you can choose an umbrella stroller with just the bare minimum, a lightweight stroller aims to give you the features of a full sized stroller in a smaller package. Features such as padded handlebars and added storage underneath can make a lightweight stroller for toddler more convenient and still easy to travel. I also like to look for features like cup holders, reclining seat and adjustable canopies. Think about the things you want in your full-sized stroller, and you may be able to find those same features in a lightweight stroller if you can take your child with you so you can put them in the stroller. You’ll be able to see if they look comfortable as well. Comfort is especially important for long trips in museums or amusement parks.
5/ The fifth thing to consider when purchasing a lightweight reclining stroller is the budget. Because it is an extra in your baby gear collection means you shouldn’t blow the college fund on it. How much you spend on a lightweight stroller for toddler should be based partly on how often you will be using it. If you’re visiting Disneyland one time on vacation in the summer, you may not want to spend as much because you probably won’t use it after that one occasion.
However, if you are a grandparent who likes to take your grandchildren to the farmers market or the mall on the weekends, then you may want to consider spending a bit more for extra features and comfort to match the time you spend in it. No matter what you plan on using it for, keep in mind also that lightweight reclining strollers don’t tend to have long lives. So don’t be surprised when you have to buy a new one.

The Top 10 Lightweight Strollers Of 2021
Lightweight strollers come in so many different sizes shapes and designs, with so many features how do you even begin to start your search for one that fits your, needs. Here are a few that will give you an idea of what is out there. I have written a review for each providing a list of its features and some of the cons.
#1 Summer Infant 3D Lite Convenience Stroller
The Summer Infant stroller feature has many features that make it a great lightweight reclining stroller.
The lightweight stroller for toddler has a slim aluminum frame that keeps it lightweight but durable, weighing only 13lb. The Summer Infant has an easy 3 step fold design and comes with a carry strap it around conveniently.
The seat is wide in design perfect for your little one as they grow. The chair is also easy to recline for added comfort.
The harness has three positions and is easily adjusted. The harness also comes with extra padding to keep your little one comfortable. The Summer Infant comes with a good amount of storage underneath the seat and in a pocket behind the seat.
There is even a place for cups and bottles. I love the canopy on the Summer Infant stroller. The canopy is large and adjustable, just what you need to protect your baby from the hot sun.
Disadvantages:
So it folds up super, easy despite being three steps, but doesn’t stand up once it’s folded. Moreover, if you are on the bus or train, this is going to be a hassle. However, I suppose the strap is supposed to compensate for this feature. Also, the front wheel brakes can be a bit flimsy. Something else to keep in mind is that you can’t load more than 10 lb in the storage basket, so definitely be careful. However, if you’re not carrying much stuff, this won’t really be a problem.
Consumer reviews include comments such as:
- “Super lightweight and incredibly comfortable. Couldn’t be happier with its performance. The Summer brand delivers once again”
- “Incredibly easy to maneuver and I love how easy it is to fold up and transport definitely one of my favorite strollers. This is the best lightweight reclining stroller for travel”
Specifications:
- “Baby weight range: 0 – 50 lbs”
- “Item weight: 15.87 lbs”
- “Product Dimensions : 41 x 8.8 x 10 inches”
- “Material: Aluminum”
#2 GB Pockit + Lightweight Stroller
The GB Pockit + lightweight stroller for toddler comes in a unique and cute design. The Pockit is one of the lightest and most compact strollers in my list weighting only 9.5 lbs. The GB can be used with an adapter to create a travel system, which is always a bonus in my book.
This feature means that this is one of the few lightweight strollers you can use from birth. It has a super durable UPF 50+ fun canopy which is perfect for those hot sunny summers and keeping your little one covered. When they get bigger, the backrest can be adjusted to give them better viewing.
The GB features a 2 step folding which is so simple you can go from pushing your little one to carrying the stroller in a matter of second. What I love most is that even once it’s folded up, it still stands on its own. The GB is so compact and easy to carry when it’s folded that you can fit it in an overhead bin. The GB Pockit is also easy to maneuver with just one hand.
The five-point harness is easily adjustable to keep your little one safe as they grow.
Disadvantages:
The GB lightweight stroller is a durable high-grade material, but it’s not very durable. The wheels are pretty small, so it is not ideal for anything but flat pavement, but that can be said of most lightweight strollers. As long as you stick to flat surfaces you should be able to run smoothly.
Consumer reviews include comments such as:
- “This city stroller is tiny and thin and lightweight stroller for toddler perfect for travel. I can’t believe that something so small could be so strong”
- “I absolutely love how easy it folds up and fits into overhead compartments. This is got to be my favorite lightweight reclining stroller for traveling with my kids. This is the best umbrella stroller”
Specifications:
- “Baby weight range: 0 – 55 lbs”
- “Item weight: 12.3 lbs”
- “Product Dimensions : 28 x 18.5 x 39.8 inches”
#3 ZOE XL1 BEST v2 Lightweight Stroller
The Zoe stroller is a great everyday stroller. The Zoe design makes it easy to maneuver, and it’s easy to fold up for travel.
I love the storage pocket underneath for all the things that you have to carry when you are traveling with your little ones like bottles, cups, and snacks. The lightweight material is durable and easy to clean.
This lightweight reclining stroller looks like a stroller you’re likely to get many comments. The storage basket underneath holds a good deal of stuff as well.
This Zoe stroller also comes in a double model that is still lightweight if you are traveling with two little ones.
The seat has three recline positions, and its five-point harness can be adjusted as your child’s needs change.
The Zoe also lightweight stroller also offer adjustable footrest to give your child even more comfortable for long trips. The canopy is adjustable and has a peek a boo window for you to check in on your little one during the ride.
Disadvantages:
Though the Zoe is easy to fold it is not very small, so if you have a compact car, it might be a tight fit. I also wouldn’t recommend this in any overhead bins for planes or trains. Also, the reclining seat for the child is not that great, so using it will be a bit cumbersome.
Consumer reviews include comments such as:
- “easy to maneuver with one hand and I’ve gotten so many compliments on how nice it is”
- “the basket fits so much stuff for a lightweight reclining stroller. This is amazing”
Specifications:
- “Baby weight range: 0 – 55 lbs”
- “Item weight: 11 lbs”
- “Product Dimensions : 39.5″ Height x 15.5″ Width x 39.5″ Depth”
#4 Kolcraft Cloud Plus Lightweight Stroller
The Kolcraft Cloud Plus stroller is the lightest I’ve ever seen coming in at only 11 lb. It’s perfect for traveling and for day trips.
It has a canopy that is so large it’s almost comical, with three tiers and the ultimate in UV protection from the sun. Your baby will definitely appreciate the shade on a sunny day. The Kolcraft Cloud has a great self-standing feature and can fold with one hand. This feature is so convenient when you are traveling at the airport or in busy places where you don’t have much room.
The design is cute, and it’s cozy for your little one, perfect for all of those family vacations. This lightweight stroller for toddler is going to be a stroller that you’ll be glad you decide to get because it has great features.
The Kolcraft features a reaching seat with a five-point harness that’s adjustable for the safety of your child.
I like the extra features like the child and parent cup holders for all the bottles and cups you are bound to carry. Kolcraft is also one of the only lightweight strollers with wheels that can handle tougher terrain.
Disadvantages:
The Kolcraft stroller is not for your newborn baby. The manufacturer recommends this stroller for children 12 lb to 50 lb. This is the stroller for the family that doesn’t want a bulky stroller but doesn’t want to sacrifice the features. Beware assembly is difficult, and the cup holders are too small to fit most sippy cups. The fabric and the material aren’t of the highest quality.
Consumer reviews include comments such as:
- “this is perfect if you’re looking for a lightweight stroller that’s kind of like an umbrella stroller but not a small”
- “I would call this the Cadillac of lightweight reclining stroller my little one loves to sit in this”
Specifications:
- “Baby weight range: 50 lbs”
- “Item weight: 11.8 lbs”
- “Product Dimensions : 31.2″ x 18″ x 39” inches
#5 Chicco C6 Stroller
The Chicco C6 is another lightweight framed stroller coming in at only 11 lb. This stroller comes with a carry bag with straps that make it even easier to travel.
It’s perfect, so you don’t have to carry a separate container and struggle to fit it in. I love the multi-position seating that the safe and comfortable for your little one. I know my son always likes to be up so he can see what’s going on at all time.
Also, the fabric is easy to clean because we all know how dirty kids can be. It features a five-point harness padded for the safety of your little one — also all-wheel suspension for a smoother ride.
Disadvantages:
The Chicco lightweight stroller is made out of a cheaper material so it’s definitely not as durable as I would like. Being made out of aluminum, I feel like it should be more durable, but it just can stand up to much use. Also if your a taller parent this stroller handles are a bit low.
Consumer reviews include comments such as:
- “I love the stroller bag. It makes it so easy to get on planes with the stroller knowing it will fit away easily”
- “I love the design of the stroller it’s really low-key, and it’s not fluorescent orange or red it’s nice to have something low-key lightweight and compact”
Specifications:
- “Baby weight range: 37 lbs”
- “Item weight: 12.4 lbs”
- “Product Dimensions : 19″ x 39″ x 33.5″ inches”
- “Material : Aluminum”

#6 Recaro Easylife “Lime” Lightweight Stroller
No products found.
I know some people don’t like a bright stroller, but I have to say my favorite part of the Recaro Easylife stroller is the lime green details. This light stroller is definitely a showstopper. It maneuvers and handles really well with just one hand.
I love that I can put the brake on with 1 foot no matter what shoes I’m wearing. It can be especially helpful at the airport when you have to stop often. The eight wheels on this roller definitely give it a smooth ride. This lightweight stroller for toddler recommended for children six months and older.
The Easylife lightweight stroller features a one-handed folding system that makes taking it with you anywhere so easy.
Disadvantages:
The storage basket on this model is not very big, so there’s no carrying very much. I didn’t have many problems with this stroller. I loved it so much.
Consumer reviews include comments such as:
- “I love its compact design and its ease of maneuvering. It’s great for when you’re at the airport, and you’ve got a ton of stuff in your hands already”
- “all the extra Wheels really give a smooth all over better ride. I don’t know how we did without this lightweight reclining stroller with my other kids”
Specifications:
- “Baby weight range: 33.07 lbs”
- “Item weight: 12.57 lbs”
- “Product Dimensions : 24.8″ x 10.63″ x 20.08″ inches”
#7 Baby Trend Rocket Lightweight Stroller
The Baby Trend Rocket has an excellent handle and the best parent organizer I’ve seen so far with two cup large cup holders.
It also has cup holder pockets inside for your little one. I also like the large canopy that is easily adjusted and the storage basket to carry extra stuff. This lightweight stroller holds a child up to 50 lbs.
It also has dual foot brakes for comfortable and safe. The Baby Trend Rocket also features padded handles for your comfort. Of course, this stroller also has a five-point harness for safety and a seat that reclines to give your child extra comfort.
Disadvantages:
This Baby Trend Rocket folds up well; however, it doesn’t stand up on its own. Also, a shorter lightweight stroller for toddler so if your taller this may not be for you. Also, the handlebars are more like an umbrella stroller with separate sides. This can be super uncomfortable, unlike the single handlebar feature.
Consumer reviews include comments such as:
- “loved it right out of the box, it was so easy to assemble, and the handles are so comfortable.”
- “this lightweight reclining stroller is amazing so much better than my bulky stroller”
Specifications:
- “Baby weight range: 50 lbs”
- “Item weight: 13.23 lbs”
- “Product Dimensions : 29.5″ x 40.55″ x 18.3″ inches”
- “Material: Metal”
#8 Maclaren Quest
The Maclaren quest is an impressive looking lightweight stroller, but it is also sporty too. It’s one of the only few that can be used from newborn all the way to 55lbs. It also has a newborn safety system.
The Maclaren Quest lightweight stroller has dual wheel back brakes. What is most eye-catching is the oversized expandable hood/sun visor. You can drive this stroller in the rain, and your baby would not get wet.
Depending on where you live or where you travel this could be very useful. A unique feature you don’t often see in a lightweight stroller is adjustable, and extendable leg rests. The seat has four recline positions which are more than most lightweight strollers.
One feature I do like is the rain cover that is included.
Disadvantages:
The design is eye-catching, but it’s not very practical. This five-point harness is not user-friendly. The manufacturer boasts that all parts of the stroller are, but I can’t really imagine that this is a useful feature. It makes me question the quality of parts if I have to get them replaced, to begin with.
The manufacturer makes this seem like a huge plus, but when your in a foreign country and your kid leaves a wheel in your hotel cause they are detachable, then what? Also when you fold this stroller, it doesn’t just stand on its own. This lightweight stroller is closer to being an umbrella stroller because of the handlebars.
Consumer reviews include comments such as:
- “love this lightweight reclining stroller. I wish we would have gotten this when I started traveling with my kids”
- “I was nervous about this because of the reviews, but this turned out to be an amazing stroller”
Specifications:
- “Baby weight range: 55 lbs”
- “Item weight: 18.52 lbs”
- “Product Dimensions : 42.8″ x 14.5″ x 7.1″ inches”
#9 Chicco Liteway Stroller
The Chicco Liteway stroller has a four-position backrest that is easy to adjust for your growing child. The canopy is adjustable and removable and features a peek a boo window.
The Chicco Liteway also has an excellent built-in handle that you use to carry it around after it been folded up. It has the umbrella split handlebars that have a comfortable grip. It also has a storage latch that is automatic. Adjustable leg rest give your little one an extra comfy ride.
This lightweight single stroller features a toe tap rear brakes for a safe stop. Lightweight strollers like the Chicco are made with the best materials. The Liteway is no different, engineered out of sleek aluminum for a lightweight but durable.
Disadvantages:
The canopy is awkward. The entire stroller is detachable in some way. It is bizarre and does not make for a stable stroller at all. Also, I do not particularly appreciate that a front wheel swivel is an option you can install.
Consumer reviews include comments such as:
- “I’ve bought 2 of these for my sons and our travels. I love it. Light and easy to get on trains and planes”
- “great lightweight umbrella stroller with great canopy for the sun in California and a good bin for storage underneath to carry more bags and things”
Specifications:
- “Baby weight range: 40 lbs”
- “Item weight: 18.8 lbs”
- “Product Dimensions : 34.5″ x 18.5″ x 41″ inches”
#10 Mountain Buggy Nano Stroller
This lightweight stroller for toddler is so cute and has a few smart features that impressed me. The curb pop feature makes it easy for you to get up and down those sidewalks without tipping over the stroller and your baby.
The Nano is travel system ready which is always a plus in my book. The Nano has a 2 step process to fold with the press of a button. It is old 13 lbs and comes with a satchel that makes taking it on busses planes and trains so convenient. It folds up to the size of a backpack. The foot brake is conveniently placed and easy to activate when needed.
It has the basic five-point harness and seat recline for child’s comfort and safety.
Disadvantages:
The Mountain Buggy Nano strollers has wheels that are tiny even for a lightweight stroller. The folding is a bit difficult and takes some practice and cannot be done while holding a baby or wrangling a toddler. You have to fold the canopy back and then fold the remaining part in half. You need two hands to pull this off.
Consumer reviews include comments such as:
- “I love to take this stroller to the mall or to the museum, great for getting around indoors”
- “I love how it folds up easily, and I can carry it in the shoulder bag when we are ready to go”
Specifications:
- “Baby weight range: 44 lbs”
- “Item weight: 13 lbs”
- “Product Dimensions : 12″ x 22″ x 20″ inches”
Conclusion
So now I know you are wondering which lightweight stroller for toddler I would choose and why.
So here are my top 3. I picked my top three personally on versatility, style and the features I feel like I would utilize the most.
1/ The Mountain Buggy Nano lightweight stroller is my number one choice because of the great design and long list of features. In love the curb pop feature that makes it easier to get on and off sidewalks. It is engineered to be the perfect weight to make this move. I can also appreciate that this stroller can act as a travel system so that you can get more use out of it. Unlike a traditional travel system, this lightweight reclining stroller will be more convenient to fold up and take on your many travels. It’s 2 step fold makes it easy to take on planes and trains. To me, it has everything I’m looking for when I’m traveling with my kids.
2/ The Maclaren Quest comes in second for me. I fell in love with the sporty design and its oversized hood. It’s hard to beat, with such a large storage basket. Also, it’s one of the few lightweight strollers you can use while your child is still a newborn. I can also appreciate that it has so many recline positions and comes with a rain cover as well. I’m not too wild about the self-service replaceable parts. However, I’m willing to give it a try because the customer service is supposed to be top notch.
3/ The Recaro Easylife lightweight stroller is my third choice because of its details. I love the color, and also the extra wheels provide a smooth ride for your little one in case you find yourself on cobblestone or an uneven sidewalk. The handlebar is continuous, which I prefer because it has greater comfort and gives greater control. The multi recline positions add to the overall enjoyment of your child especially on long rides like in the malls and museums.
I hope you enjoy looking at all the lightweight reclining stroller available and find one that suits your needs.
